Board of Directors

Christopher M.C. Deibert, Executive Director, Conductor – Christopher M. C. Deibert has been active in sacred music for over 25 years.  Mr. Deibert founded the critically acclaimed MUSIC AT SAINT MARY’S concert series in 2001 and currently serves as Executive Director for the series and Conductor of the Saint Mary Chamber Orchestra (SMCO).  As Director of Music Ministries and Liturgy at Saint Mary’s, he serves as organist and conducts three liturgical choirs, a handbell choir, and the Saint Mary Choral Society.

A native of central New Jersey, Mr. Deibert attended the University of Scranton, PA, and Marywood College.  He pursued graduate studies in church music and organ performance at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ and organ and harpsichord improvisation at The Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY.  He has studied organ with Brenda A. Day and Ronald W. Thayer, and improvisation with Bruce Neswick, Lynn Harris and Herbert Buchanan.  An active organ recitalist, Mr. Deibert has performed at churches and universities throughout New England and the greater New York City region, and has received critical acclaim for his organ improvisations.  He has been a featured lecturer at Seton Hall University’s Immaculate Conception Seminary, and at Keuka College, Rochester, NY.

Mr. Deibert is the immediate Past Dean of the Middlesex Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and a former Chapter Director of the Diocese of Metuchen Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM).  He is a current member of both the AGO and NPM, as well as a member of the Church Music Association of America (CMAA), an Associate Member of the Royal School of Church Music, The Choristers Guild, The Organ Historical Society and the Music Educators National Conference.  In 2005 he was given an E. Power Biggs Fellowship by the Organ Historical Society, and in 2007 was a recipient of the Award of Distinction given by the National Religious Music Week Alliance.

Mr. Deibert is the chair of the music department at Our Lady of Victories School, Sayreville, NJ where he conducts a 60-voice children’s chorus, runs a graded handbell program and teaches K-8 vocal and general music.  He also maintains a private piano and organ studio of over 30 students.

Betty Testa, President – A long-time parishioner of St. Mary Church, Elizabeth Testa’s soprano voice brought her to the St. Mary Choir and Choral Society where she remained an active member for over 40 years.  She also lent her voice to the Diocese of Metuchen Choir for over 20 years and sang for the Plays in the Park series at Roosevelt Theater in Edison.

A retired Legal Administrative Assistant, Elizabeth volunteered her time as a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and PTA and she is currently a St. Mary Parish Trustee.  Her years of experience and organizational abilities are an asset to the Board of Directors, and her qualifications to serve the Board as President are exceptional.

Barbara Turso-Dembowski, Co-Fundraising Coordinator, General Counsel, Secretary –  A parishioner at St. Mary's since grammar school, Mrs. Turso-Dembowski is happy and honored to be a part of its current music program.  Switch hitting between alto and tenor in the adult vocal choir with her co-coordinator Roxanne Keegan, the two are affectionately referred to as the "Altoids".  Having been a member of the Board as Secretary since it's inception, MASM is a labor of love, and the end result of helping Executive Director Deibert present a phenomenal music concert series makes all the fundraising efforts, great and small, successful or not, worthwhile.

An attorney with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, Mrs. Turso-Dembowski grew up in Hoboken, N.J., but is a long time resident of South Amboy with her husband, Ken, and children Hannah and Matthew.  She is a true product of Catholic education, having attended both St. Mary grammar and high school, St. Peter's College, and Seton Hall Law School.  Along with her MASM duties and St. Mary's choir memberships, she is a long standing member of the South Amboy Juvenile Conference committee, and is a member of a number of professional associations.  She is also a member of the Judiciary Voices in Unity, a vocal choir based in the Hudson County Courthouse.  She is very proud that Matthew is part of the adult choir, and that both Hannah and Matt occasionally lend their talents with mom to the "Bells of St. Mary's" bell-choir.
